The student population served by this tool (approximately 4000) include “at-risk” populations such as students on probation or incoming freshmen, and specialized population such as athletes or Honors students. The solution allows for advisors to identify and intervene with students from these populations that may not be performing well at the mid-point of the term. It also allows advisors to encourage those students that are doing well. During the mid-point of DePaul’s academic term, faculty that teach students from either an at-risk or specialized population are automatically sent an e-mail (using Psmailer) requesting that they fill out a progress report. The reporting system delivers a convenient one-line-per-student view for faculty to submit class and student progress information. Once reports are submitted, advisors (both academic and non-academic) from across the University have access to view reports, sort reports with multiple criteria, e-mail faculty or students in their caseload, look up student contact details, keep or share notes on outreach and print individual or group reports; All of these things and more can be done from the customized PeopleSoft views available through our ‘Academic Progress Reporting’ or APR application. As a result of this new system, an integrated approach to advising (both academic and non-academic) is being pursued by the areas involved with the project. Details on this as well as an overview of the different phases of the project and the application timeline will be discussed.
