About

HEUG Community Council

Creating educational programs to help members understand new technology and deployment options and providing recommendations in future impact of product design and development priorities. In 2023, the HEUG Community achieved a pivotal milestone in it's organizational growth by transitioning five Advisory Groups (AGs) to Communities of Practice (CoPs). This transformative shift underscores our dedication to fostering greater collaboration, inclusivity, and community engagement among our members.

About the Community of Practices

The Community of Practices are composed of representatives from HEUG member institutions with expertise to create a dedicated platform for professionals within the higher education sector. This platform aims to foster the exchange of knowledge, collaboration on strategic initiatives, influence academic best practices, and drive technological innovations in education. The responsibilities and activities of these groups include:

  • Uphold academic integrity and the values of HEUG and ensure proprietary discussions, research, or data shared within the CoP remain private, unless explicitly stated otherwise.
  • Actively participate in CoP gatherings, events, and discussions, engaging with fellow members constructively to embrace diverse academic views and leverage collective expertise for communal growth.
  • Stay updated with higher education trends and disseminate knowledge to CoP peers.
  • Assisting the Program Taskforce with the annual Alliance conference program (i.e., soliciting, evaluating, and selecting proposals, scheduling.)

Champions serve for three-year terms and may serve at most two consecutive terms. Nominations are screened by the Nominations and Elections Committee, with final approval by the HEUG Board. An attempt is made in the selection process to ensure diversity in system knowledge and across various types of institutions: large and small; public and private; two-year, four-year and graduate; US and other countries.

Duties of Community of Practice Champions vary among Community of Practices, but most Community of Practices include the following officers and roles:
