Implementing AI and Machine Learning to Identify key Enrollment Indicators at the Michigan State University

Michigan State University (MSU) experienced increased enrollment pressure in the face of a shifting higher education landscape across the United States and the State of Michigan.  The solution was Deloitte collaborating with Michigan State University on a variety of strategic initiatives, notably the first implementation of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning predictive models that make up Candidate360TM. These models combined proprietary lifestyle data, which includes more than 1,700 data elements about over 230M U.S. households, with MSU data to optimize the analytics and insights that the recruitment team had on-hand. The insights – which provided individualized profiles of in state, domestic, and international prospects – helped recruiters prioritize limited time and resources. As a whole, the analytics solution helped MSU identify admissions and financial aid trends on key enrollment indicators to better understand the progression of the admissions lifecycle.
