Hello Reader!
My professional career has focused on three general areas: communication (writing/editing, marketing, media relations), training (policies, technical how-to, personal/leadership development, soft skills), and systems (technical and business process).
I serve on the HEUG Project & Change Management (PCM) Advisory Group (second term ending March 2023). My current focus (and a particular passion of mine!) is designing/developing the new HEUG Presenter Certification Program to enhance member professional skills in developing and delivering presentations of all types, in all venues (Alliance Conference and others).
For my day job, I'm the Director of Finance & Procurement Business Services in the Office of University Controller, University of Colorado. My team supports the fiscal initiatives of our multi-campus system through digital design (web and multimedia), communications, training, documentation, and help desk services in the areas of finance, financial reporting, purchasing, accounts payable, and travel. Previously, I worked for private brand development/marketing firms, for CAUSE (now Educause), for public health and education agencies, and for the University of Wisconsin (UW)-Madison (there, as Curricular Programs Manager for the ~ 44,000-student campus).
My college degrees are from UW-Madison (B.A.-History and M.A.-African Languages/Arabic Linguistics). I've completed various certifications in leadership, communications, and train-the-trainer. If you were to see me in a bookstore (online or brick-and-mortar), you'd most likely find me in sections dedicated to leadership, strategic thinking, innovation, digital design, language/linguistics, or communication.
I've been active in various regional, national, and international organizations focused on higher education, including NACUBO, Educause, COLTT (Colorado Learning & Teaching with Technology), and CUMREC. I'm also involved in learning organizations, such as HDI, Training Magazine, and ATD. My Oracle experience includes PeopleSoft Financials (GL/AP/PO), HCM, and Campus Solutions. My involvement with HEUG dates back to 2004, when the University of Colorado was planning its upgrade from Citrix (!) to FIN 8.4. I discovered that the HEUG association and conferences offer a tremendous array of learning and networking opportunities that unite members across product lines, technological capacities, and geopolitical boundaries.
Thank you for reading a bit about me. I'd love to hear from you, about you!
