Embracing the Multiverse: How we scheduled classes and then changed them all

LIVE WEBINAR

AUG 11, 2021

1:00 PM - 2:00 PM ET

Join us for a case study of how Azusa Pacific University has changed their academic scheduling processes and tools over the past year. As a university in Los Angeles County, we have had to massively change our schedule several times in response to public health issues and new guidance from public officials. Over that time, we have worked to implement various tools to help us build and adjust the schedule more quickly. As of the time of this proposal, we are in the process of building new tools to allow for fast pivots between multiple teaching modalities and class sizes for Spring 2021 and beyond. We will leverage File Parser and Component Interface to provide a brand new schedule-loading tool.

We will talk about the following stages of scheduling:
What was our old process?
How did we respond in Spring 2020?
How did we improve our processes for Fall 2020? (New tools, part 1).
What did we do for Spring 2021? A bold challenge (this is the part that justifies the multiverse jokes from before).
Demonstrate the custom tool design (New tools, part 2)
Explain the resulting business process changes: How did it go? Lessons learned What's next?
