We sat down with Daryl Robinson, director of Nelnet Campus Commerce product development, as he explained how the perfect combination of state-of the-art payment solutions and adaptability benefits everyone in higher education.

Q: We offer best-in-class service to our partners. What does that mean?

A: Campuses are a lot like cities – they have a variety of departments with many different needs that range from very simple to very complex. You have people that are very concerned about compliance, and others that just need to take a payment. And we’re able to serve all of those needs.

“Best-in-class” means we engage with our partners to understand their needs, identify the challenges they’re trying to solve, and then identify solutions.

Q: What new products and technologies are coming down the pipeline?

A: In 2019, we’ll be introducing Campus Key, which replaces the ID card that students carry around in their wallet, with a mobile solution that is more secure.

We also recently announced that all face-to-face and telephone transactions will use a point-to-point encrypted solution, and we’re rebuilding our cashiering solution from the ground up in order to make it mobile first, which allows institutions to accept payments anywhere.

With all of these solutions, we’re staying ahead of the technology curve, and really making administrator and student lives easier with ease of payment or transaction, compliance and security.

Q: What makes you passionate about working at Nelnet?

A: The people.  When I was a client of Nelnet Campus Commerce, I saw the passion they had for their customers, and I knew that was unique. I knew that was a value of mine too and saw that this company would be a great fit.

Q: What makes our products unique in the marketplace?

A: The sheer number of solutions that we offer our partners is an important differentiator for us. We’re not a one-size-fits-all company. We can tailor solutions to meet a wide variety of needs. Couple that with our industry leading customer service, we truly have the best of both worlds – technology and service.
