By Lorne Henne posted 02-11-2022 09:00 AM

We all went through it, and many of us are still managing the lasting effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on our institutions.  The pandemic has forced major changes in almost every aspect of the university experience, for both students and employees, and these changes have led to innovation in many processes.  Whether you’ve had to modify your existing tools to accommodate your constituents or have developed an entirely new communications strategy - come and learn!

Session 8656 – “Exploiting PS Campus Events Planning function to deliver creative solutions for COVID triggered business challenges”

Tue. Mar. 15 8:30 – 9:30 AM PDT   Chelan 2

PeopleSoft Campus Solutions offers an out-of-the-box Event scheduling tool used in pre-COVID days by the University of Pretoria to schedule student graduation events.  Since the COVID outbreak, the university has vastly expanded its use of the Event scheduling tool to deal with a variety of COVID-induced challenges. This session will share how UP has customized the Event tool to:

  • schedule students to collect their degree certificate - normally given during in-person graduation - from special facilities designed with COVID safety protocols in mind;
  • facilitate return or purchase of university-supplied laptops from students;
  • schedule new students arriving to collect their student cards, and
  • to enable UP staff and students to record COVID vaccinations received, and to schedule additional COVID vaccinations from special facilities established at the university's Faculty of Health Sciences.

Session 8741 “Behind the Mask: Our Approach to COVID”

Tue Mar. 15 3:00 – 4:30 PM PDT  Room 213

This case study discusses the many efforts made to proactively navigate and adjust DePaul University’s services, technologies and communications in response to the COVID pandemic and some of the lasting impact these changes have made on our institution.  The move to remote learning and work-from-home has forced a permanent technological and philosophical shift in our institution centered on the question of how best to deliver quality services to our constituents. They will highlight the communications approach taken by DePaul University in response to the COVID pandemic. Behind the scenes co-ordination with local, state, and federal governments helped us create planned, targeted and individualized messaging to inform all members of the university community: faculty, staff, students, parents and donors alike, every step of the way.
