During the March 2012 Alliance Conference, I had the opportunity to participate in an impromptu roundtable discussion organized by one of the attendees. The discussion topic surrounded graduate study as it relates to Oracle’s PeopleSoft Campus Solutions product and existing Academic Advising functionality. Circle participants had the opportunity to share their concerns as well as their solutions for dealing with ever changing requirements that are not always course based, often unstructured and built around individual student accomplishments.
Roundtable solutions ranged from the creative utilization of existing functionality, for example Student Groups and Milestones, to major product modifications and bolt-on development. Current Oracle development surrounding Program Enrollment, including its Research and Activities Management components promises to solve some graduate issues, but whether the assessment and tracking functionality will be available within the Academic Advisement Report (AAR) has yet to be determined.
Hopefully, this blog will provide members of the Academic Advising Community who are intimately involved in graduate school activities with a somewhat organized (and segregated) venue for asking questions and sharing thoughts related to everyday issues found in the graduate world.
I’ll be monitoring blog activities and looking for common elements and themes that might someday lead to development aimed directly at graduate school advisement.
