The DL on DL (or, the Down Low on Direct Lending)

By Tom Johnson posted 10-19-2009 12:29 PM

Howdy All.

So, this is it.  My employer, Duke University, has committed to Direct Lending.  We have taken the vow, tied the knot, jumped the broom, locked the door and thrown away the key.  Sounds a little scary, but I just listened in on Scott Cho's (excellent) webinar, and he said BE NOT AFRAID.   So…I am undaunted.

I’m optimistic, but woefully unprepared.  I've been a CommonLine person for as long as I’ve been around PeopleSoft.  I've always steered clear of anything relating to DL.  I didn't need it, so I didn't learn it.  But now, the world has shifted, and I need some assistance to remain current. I’m willing to bet there are many of you reading this blog who are in the same boat.

So, I would like to invite you to take this journey with me.  We can dive into the Direct Lending pool together, and swim to the other side.  I will keep you abreast of what we are doing here at Duke, and you can post your thoughts in reply.  I will post at least once a week, and hopefully my wisdom or foolishness will prompt comment.  I also plan to invite guest commentators along the way.  We certainly have plenty of experts to assist us – several currently serve on the FA PAG.

As a first step, post a reply letting us know if you are also making the leap.  If will be helpful at the outset to know who will be working towards DL for 2011.

Stay tuned.  I look forward to discussing this with you in the next several months.

DL 2011?

Butler is still investigating.  No decision finalized yet!  We are in the middle of our 9.0 upgrade.

FFELP or DL

Pepperdine University is looking at transitioning to DL, but we are still researching. I've started looking at the setup, and after talking to several people about DL in PeopleSoft I have a little more confidence (a little). Novita

Webinar

I was trying to find Scott's webinar that was to be posted on Monday, but am having trouble locating it.  Any idea where it is on the website?

DL

The University at Albany will be going to DL in 2011 also.  We have started the wedding plans and are looking for wedding planners for assistance too.  :)

DL on DL

UCF is easing into DL.  I've done some research amd played around with setup.  I'll be keeping up on what others have experienced.
