This is the last Conference Chair blog before Alliance 17. Hard to believe that in just a few short weeks we’ll be together in Las Vegas! The hard work is done and we’re ready to A.C.E (advocate, collaborate and educate) and when that is done we can PLAY!
We have a number of fun and exciting options for you to experience while at Alliance. We begin with our very exciting Keynote Speaker, Erik Wahl. He will be creating a couple of paintings during his presentation – be sure to attend and see what they turn out to be. We will then move on to the Opening Reception. Be sure to check out all our wonderful vendors and look out for some strolling entertainment. Music will be provided by Las Vegas Quartet.
Our Closing Night activities will be in Studio A/B and the Grand Garden Arena. In Studio A/B you can relax and carry on networking with your new found colleagues as well as listen to Scott Keo, a Michael Buble tribute artist. You can also indulge in some scrumptious desserts and tea and coffee. In the Grand Garden Arena we kick off the evening with iLuminate, who were called “the best new act in America” during their 2011 run on America’s Got Talent. This show will start promptly at 6:45 pm so make sure you grab seat before that – it’s not to be missed! iLuminate will be followed by two very different DJ’s. First, we have DJ and Drummer a very dynamic and “high-energy act that merges the modern sound of a live DJ with the explosive energy of Drums.” They will be followed by cb Shaw and Carissa – “cb shaw blends multiple styles on beat and in musical key.”
In my first blog I said I would try and remember to include a fun fact about Las Vegas each month and I’m proud to say that I have managed to do that without missing a month. Here is my last one: In 1941 the El Rancho Vegas resort opened on a section of U.S. 91 just outside the city’s jurisdiction. Other hotel-casinos soon followed, and the section of highway became known as “the Strip.” Most were built around the regional or Old West themes that were popular on Fremont Street. In 1946, mobster Bugsy Siegel, backed by East Coast Jewish gangster Meyer Lansky’s Mexican drug money, opened the Flamingo, a swank resort that took its cues from Hollywood. Top-drawer talent was booked for its lounges and dozens of celebrities attended its opening on Christmas Day.
