My bags are packed, I'm ready to go....

So the last time I blogged, it was all about Christmas decorations going up at HEUG Towers and the writing of my greeting cards.. Now it all looks a little different - the decorations and cards have gone and I'm sitting in a rather bare room surrounded by boxes as I prepare to leave HEUG Towers for the last time. Yep, my time on the Board is up and there will be new occupants here this time next month.

Its been a great 3 years and I've been hugely fortunate to be part of the organisation. During this time, we've seen growth in membership from around the world and witnessed the formation of global 'communities' - underpinning the spirit of co-operation between members that we do so well. We've been involved in a time of financial crisis that no one expected and have had to respond to that - a crisis that will continue to reverberate through Higher Ed around the world for a few years yet. Hopefully you will find way to use your membership of the HEUG to ease that pain. And finally, I have learnt so much about the real strength of the HEUG, every single member that contributes so much - the PAG members, the people on the work groups, the people that take part in forums discussions and attend the Conference - everyone of you contributes in some way. To you all I offer my thanks for what you do and the help and support you have given me over the past three years....

So, I'm heading off to Texas in the next couple of days for my last Alliance Conference, an event that I always find so extraordinairy. I can't wait... for on Thursday, I shall be truly 'Leaving on a Jet Plane'...

with best wishes...

Hugh

and a well deserved thank you

while you are thanking everyone else, let me be one to thank you for all you have done for the HEUG over the past years especially in the most recent time when you served so well as the VP for External Affairs.  Your ability to work with our members throughout the world has been exceptional.  And for one I appreciate your working with me on understanding the non US issues and pressures.  On top of that your have been a great friend from across the pond to all of us...thanks...and enjoy that retirement...Cambridge will never be the same.
