With the resignation of second term board member Christopher Pondish, who has taken a postion with IO-Consulting, the board met and discussed potential replacements to fill the remaining two years of the vacated seat.  The seat representing 2-yr institutions has a term that runs until March of 2016.  After discussing the various candidates the HEUG Board of Directors approved the appointment of Mr. Theo Douma, Vice President from ROC-Nijmegen of the Netherlands.

Theo who has four Masters degrees (History, Educational Sciences, Learning/Development and Strategical Management in Higher Education) has a wealth of experience as a leader at his campus, but also with other groups in the Netherlands and in Europe.  He currently serves as a Vice President and on the Board of Directors at ROC-Nijmegen.  He has worked in education at INHOLLAND, Technical University Eindhoven, Noordelijke Hogeschool Leeuwarden and Wageningen University.  He spent some time on the consulting side with Cap Gemini and he also spent time working for the Netherlands Ministry of Education.

Theo currently is the Chair of the Dutch Education User Group (DEUG) and serves on a Supervisory Board European platform for the internationalism of higher education.  Previously he also served as chair of the Euro-league Universities of Life Sciences.

Theo has been active with the HEUG by attending several Alliance conferences, international events in EMEA, and in particular has been an active participant of the HEUG's annual Executive Forum.  He will support Jane Broad in our community development of the EMEA region and will work actively with Jerry Waldron in the planning for the 2015 Executive Forum

Please join me first in thanking Chris Pondish for his many years of service to the HEUG and in welcoming Theo Douma to the HEUG Board of Directors!
