The Song Remains the Same

California sunlight, sweet Calcutta rain, Honolulu star bright, the song remains the same (Robert Plant).

On May 10, the HEUG participated in the Conferencia Internacional – Mejora de Procesos de Gestion en Universidades con Soporte Technologico do Clase Mundial (ERP) held at Pontifica Univesidad Catholica del Peru in Lima.  This conference brought together institutions and people from Peru, Colombia, Brasil, Uruguay, and the USA.  Presentations focused on PeopleSoft implementations and their aftermath as well as technology’s relationship to higher education.  The opportunity to hear the trials and tribulations of our Latin American colleagues put me in mind of the opening track Zeppelin’s 1973 “Houses of the Holy”.  It seems that for the most part, implementation is implementation, resistance to change is universal, i.e., the song remains the same no matter where you go.  I believe one of the most important benefits to being a member of the HEUG is the chance to learn that you are not alone and there is nothing like sharing misery to solidify relationships.  HEUG members have a lot in common, let’s continue to make the most of it.
