News of the World

Registration is now open for all three HEUG International Conferences.  Point your browser to http://www.heug.org/p/cm/ld/fid=651 for information on Alliance Down Under (Gold Coast, Australia), Asia HEUG (Taipa, Macau), or HEUG EMEA (London, England).  I also want to highlight the various Regional Networking Communities, http://www.heug.org/p/co/in/faid=6 where each community has their own private forum to communicate with users in their area and in their own language.  I am particularly fond of the UK site as it is in a foreign language I can somewhat understand.

I also want to report on the events I alluded to in my previous blog.  Immediately following the HEUG Board Summer meeting at Oracle’s Redwood Shores, CA headquarters, a small handful of HEUG’s hardiest team members set sail (euphemistically) for Manila and Shanghai.  We gave up a day on the way to Manila but on July 19, we were the beneficiaries of the University of the Philippines’ (UP) generosity in Manila where we met with representatives from UP, De La Salle University, Xavier University, Oracle and Techlogix (a local implementer).  Based on the communication, enthusiasm, and exchange of ideas, we have established the beginnings of a Philippine SIG.

From Manila, some of us headed to Shanghai to participate in APOUC activities at Oracle Open World Shanghai.  At APOUC we had the opportunity to interact with fellow user groups from across the Asia Pacific region, sharing stories of success and tales of woe, gleaning information from the Oracle strategy representatives, and savoring a cup of steeped Camellia sinensis.  We reclaimed the day on the way back to the good old US of A (I also reclaimed the iPad I left on the plane), basking in the afterglow of new connections and new possibilities.
