PS Query & SQL

Connected Query is a relatively new tool provided in PeopleSoft Campus Solutions for gathering data. We will look at when its use might be advantageous, the advantages and disadvantages of the tool, how to create a connected query, and an introduction to transformations and BI Publisher. Discover how Connected Query can be your new best friend when reporting from Campus Solutions.

Questions that will be considered are:

• What is a Connected Query?
• What security is necessary to see the Connected Query menu items?
• When is Connected Query useful? When is it not necessary? Are there uses besides the presentation of data for Connected Query? Are there any limitations on Connected Query that will need to be taken into consideration?
• What do you need to think about as you prepare the PSQueries that will be put together in the Connected Query?
• What steps do you take to create a Connected Query? What do you need to be careful of as you construct the queries and the connected query?
• What are the display options for Connected Query? How do you create a BI Publisher report from a connected query? What is an XSLT transformation and how would you write one?
• Examples will be drawn from Student Financials, since that is my area of expertise, but the information presented about methodology will be applicable to any area.
