    Ron,

We are looking at a package from the ANZ Student Campus card. University of Sydney have this up and running.
I am just starting to look as this function. If you google ANZ bank and then do a search on student Campus Card it will give you some information on this.

    Hi Ron,
ANU is using CARDAX - an NZ firm I believe. We have an interface
between the systems that has been working since the introduction of
PeopleSoft at the University. We are in the process of upgrading the
    version of CARDAX.
In terms of the pros and cons, this is really an assessment that each
institution would need to make based on their own requirements. This is
a significant project which impacts security configuration and services,
physcial building secuirty and the type of readers used and other
systems which use the information. The student card is one aspect of a
    very complex project.
Happy to provide any additional information about our interface offline.

    Hi Ron,
USC also uses Cardax (Owned by Gallagher of Hamilton NZ) and have built an interface with PeopleSoft. The Cardax records are pre-populated from both the Student and our HR/Payroll Systems. Students and staff then get their photos taken using the Cardax system and a photo ID smart card is produced for identification and building access. We also print a barcode on the card for use by our Library system.
Photos are also imported back into PeopleSoft and made available to Staff for identification purposes.
We have been using this for many years and haven't seen any need to consider other options.

    cheers

    Hello,
At CQU we use a custom application I wrote in Delphi back in 1999. So it has some history. It provides 2 main functions photo capture and printing. The capture source can be from file, email, video capture or scanner. The picture can be cropped and rescaled. The printing function uses standard windows printer functions, with some mod's to cope with particular brands of printers idiosyncrasies. There is also a feature that lets the operator print a mailing label. The program can encode mag strips and smartchips.

The program interfaces directly with the database. It uses a materialized view to extract data and writes back to custom PeopleSoft records to update card number details. Photos are stored in PS_EMPL_PHOTO. The speed is about the same as googles instant search. We have incorporated a call back feature to enable easy interfacing with 3rd party applications such as the student print system.

The design has evolved over time. Originally it was a batch mode program. It copes with the different requirements of our different campuses. Some take a photo and produce a idcard on enrolment but others capture photos from the email then later print a batch of cards.

The card expiry date is configurable.

All the campuses run the program from a centralized location to ease administration.

The pro's with the custom approach include the ability to customize the program to cope with requirements. Also we don't have to worry about license fees.

The program was originally modelled on a WYSIWYG card printing program. Really the last thing you what to do is have the print operator modifying the design of a card. A separate program could be used to generate a card "template".

The photo editing feature is useful to crop the photos that don't quite meet the passport standard layout and to resize the file down to a standard size, but is really separate from the printing function.

That would leave a non gui program (service) to print the card and update the version info.

Contact me if you want more details.

  • 7.  Call for Nominations for ANZ Student Product Advisory Group

    Posted 11-24-2010 11:33 PM
Nominations are now open for positions on the ANZ Student PAG. Two
vacant positions are required to be filled outside our normal nomination
and selection period, as such the time frame that nominations can remain
    open is fairly short.

Nominations will close on Wednesday December 15th at 6pm AEDST
    (Australian Eastern Daylight Savings Time)

The ANZ Community operates under the umbrella of the Higher Education
    Users Group (HEUG).

PAGs are composed of representatives from HEUG member institutions.

Membership provides an opportunity for you to serve the ANZ region and
have input about specific product features, problems and opportunities.

As a member of the ANZ Student PAG you will have an impact on shaping
the design and development priorities of the Campus Solutions product by
being a conduit between the ANZ Student HEUG community and Oracle
    product strategists and developers.

You will also be engaging through the annual ANZ Alliance conference,
participating and networking across the ANZ and broader user
environment, and helping ensure ongoing relevance of the ANZ region in a
    global user context.

You will need the support of your institution and must be willing to
commit to a monthly conference call and the Summit meeting preceding the
Alliance Down Under Conference for each year of your term. Other duties
are assigned to members and rotate around the group. For example,
Coordinator for Regulatory requirements, Communications Officer and
Student Track Chair for the conference.

The Student PAG works collaboratively with Oracle and this could involve
other assignments such as participation on a Focus Group.

Terms will be for 3 years, commencing at the Summit meeting. It is also
expected that members rolling off will attend the Summit at the end of
    their term.

Follow the link to complete your nomination:
