Helping students with disabilities succeed at the University of Cambridge

11-03-2022 09:11 AM

The University of Cambridge was facing a problem: how could we distribute the right information to the right people in a format they understood?

To support students with disabilities, the University provides academic and support staff with sets of recommendations tailored to each student. Previously these recommendations were distributed using a complex manual process, which was highly time-consuming and error-prone, and did not scale well as staff joined and left the organisation. As a consequence, students were not always receiving all the support they needed.

To solve these problems, we have developed a bespoke application in Campus Solutions to share the recommendations securely with the appropriate staff, and to allow students to view these through self-service. The application takes advantage of several delivered technologies, including Fluid UI, tiles and navigation collections, pivot grids, and the notifications framework. In this session we will demonstrate our solution and consider some of the challenges presented during this project.
