Tips for Presenting at Alliance!

Calling All Presenters! Alliance Call for Proposals Opens Soon!

It’s that time of year again! What time is that you ask? Alliance call for presentations time of course! As you know, we will be back in person this year and nobody wants to miss out on the chance to present at Alliance 2022.

There are a lot of benefits to presenting at Alliance. Presenting to your colleagues not only benefits the attendees of your session but also provides an opportunity to showcase your experience and expertise to a global membership. This type of professional development and exposure can open new doors and opportunities.

Many times, members ask, “What should I present on?” or “What all do I need to do to present?” If this is you, don’t worry, we have got you covered.

STEP 1: The first step is selecting a topic to present. For these proposals, I challenge you to think of a topic that our higher education industry is facing. Here are a few examples:

  • Highlight a new technology or functionality
  • Tell a success story or lessons learned
  • Provide a professional development opportunity
  • Discuss a recent decision-making process

STEP 2: Once you have brainstormed that perfect topic, you will want to settle on a session length and you will need to complete your presentation proposal submission on the Alliance website. There are a lot of fields on the submission form so some presenters find it helpful to refer to the submission tips for a list of the fields to help them draft their proposal before completing the actual online form. This website also lists helpful tips for each field.

One of the biggest pieces of advice I give to those submitting a proposal is the more detail the better! This includes submitting presentation slides if you have those prepared. Slides are not required, but it is a great way to give those reviewing your session a sneak peek of your presentation. These can always be updated at a later date. So don’t feel like they have to be your final version.

STEP 3: Once you have completed your submission, and the call for proposals closes, your presentation will undergo a number of peer reviews. I encourage you to familiarize yourself with the key dates so that you don’t miss out on any important deadlines and know when to keep an eye open for any presenter correspondence.

And that’s it! You are done and hopefully on your way to Seattle to present.
