Greetings Colleagues,
The HEUG Academic Advisement (Oracle) Advisory Group actively works to support HEUG members and partners with Oracle to improve the AAR. The Advisory group stands ready to engage with HEUG members; as a platform to share best practices, the group provides support, referrals, resources and more.
Your Academic Advisement Advisory Group consists of four members with expertise and experience with Oracle and the AAR.
Carolyn Veek
Degree Audit Analyst and Transfer Credit Lead
Registrar’s Office
California State University, Dominguez Hills
I am serving my second term on the AA-AG part of CARS and am the Vice Chair for the AA-AG. As the functional lead for the Academic Advisement module in PeopleSoft, I work within the Academic Advisement and Student Records modules, including Academic Requirements pages, Transfer and Test Credit Rules building, Transfer and Test Credit posting, Student and Advisee Services Centers, and various PeopleSoft pages and modules that interact with these areas.
I enjoy participating in 5K fun runs/walks; I am also an avid reader - my favorite books include cozy mysteries, fantasy, biographies, romances, current and historical events, and anything else that catches my interest. I admit to being a professed Disneyholic and have a Magic Key for Disneyland which I visit at least a couple times a month. I love to travel any chance I can and especially enjoy taking road trips throughout California and across the US, including visiting state parks and national parks and monuments.
I also volunteer in my community; I am a board member for the American Cetacean Society - Los Angeles Chapter and am an active volunteer with the sorority, Phi Sigma Sigma.
Stacia Madsen, Advisory Group Chair
Business/Systems Analyst 3, Academic Advisement (GPAS)
Office of Undergraduate Education
University of Minnesota
I have worked in graduate education at the University of Minnesota since 2006. I transitioned to business/systems analyst to lead the implementation of Academic Advising for graduate and professional students in 2014 when the University upgraded to Campus Solutions 9.0. My expertise is in graduate education policy, curriculum, and milestones. I enjoy helping others find solutions to their graduate education conundrums.
Outside of work, I love to travel and SCUBA dive in remote locations around the world; I once found a megalodon shark tooth on one of my SCUBA adventures in North Carolina! I also enjoy running ultramarathons closer to home, including 50k and 50-mile races.
Matt DuPrey
Assistant Registrar
Michigan State University
This is my first year on the AA Advisory Group. I oversee the Degree Audit and Degree Clearance team. While Michigan State is relatively new to the PeopleSoft Campus Solutions world, having first gone live in fall 2021, I have years of experience with the AA module, having first learned it while working for the University of Michigan prior to joining Michigan State. The university is proud to have 100% of its undergraduate, graduate, certificate, and professional programs coded into the degree audit system, with all programs also utilizing an electronic degree clearance system.
With the entire university encoded into the degree audit system, I describe myself as a jack of all trades and master of none when it comes to degree audit coding. I also maintain the Academic Plan table for the university, giving me some expertise in that area.
In the warmer months, I enjoy golfing and boating with my wife and three kids. During the winter, I prefer to stay indoors and watch Michigan State and Red Wings hockey. An avid musician, I maintain that the best job I ever had was playing bass trombone in the 2004 Disneyland All-American College Band.
Roger Jay Kaplan, Ph.D.
Senior Assistant Registrar
Office of the University Registrar
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
I originally hail from southern California (Go Dodgers!), including growing up five miles from Disneyland. (But I’m not a big Disney fan.) I have a Ph.D. in Hebrew and Jewish Studies, and was a faculty member at Ohio State University; I have worked in higher education administration for over 16 years. At UNC-CH, I spent eight years as an academic advisor; in 2020, once in the Registrar’s Office, I transitioned undergraduate graduation clearance (from PDF forms) to the AAR. Now I oversee a team of degree auditors who manage the AAR and use the AAR to clear undergraduates for graduation. My team is currently developing AARs for graduate-level programs, which will be used for graduation clearance in Spring 2025.
I consider myself a “funky-tech” with extensive knowledge of PeopleSoft (Campus Solutions) functionality; I also supervise a team of business analysts who provide student academic data to campus partners.
I love to travel, especially to foreign countries, read fiction (in English and Hebrew), hike and take long (30+ miles) bike rides. I have lived in Durham, NC for almost 30 years where I raised my now 25-year-old son. Today, I play second fiddle to a beautiful active border collie. (Did someone say “ball?”).
