Using Drop Zones to Isolate Customizations in PeopleSoft applications - Webinar review

On July 24, 2020, Matthew Haavisto, joined TRAG members Sasank Vemana and Tamara Foster in a webinar on Drop Zones: Using Drop Zones to Isolate Customizations. We learned about how Drop Zones are currently implemented, their uses, migration of Drop Zones between environments, Life Cycle Management, and we discussed possible future directions for this feature. You can watch the webinar by navigating to the e-Academy on demand recordings or by following the link above.

Drop Zones were introduced with PeopleTools 8.57. In the short time since they were introduced the PeopleSoft Applications for HCM (Image 30), FSCM (Image 31), ELM (Image 19), and CRM (Image 17), have added Drop Zones to all of their Fluid pages, and with PeopleTools 8.58 Classic pages can also be enabled for Drop Zones as well. At the time of writing this blog, the Campus Solutions application has not implemented any Drop Zones.

As discussed in the webinar Drop Zones allow us to isolate our customizations on pages, effectively eliminating retrofits for the pages they are applied to. If we begin to understand and utilize drop zones for our customizations, we will save time when applying PUM images in the future.

A survey conducted just before the webinar gave us just a few responses from our community and the responses are shared below:

Thank you to all who completed the survey and to those who participated in the Webinar.
