    Dear Colleagues

    Here is an update on the pre and post conference training that will be delivered by trainers from iO Consulting. Apologies if you receive multiple copies of this email, but I'm trying to cover all bases.

    The iO technical trainer (Tim Burns) has been booked for 4 weeks - Tim is an excellent trainer and will also be presenting at ADU in the Technical track. The iO Campus Solutions trainer (Karen Nixon) has been booked for 1 week - no other availability unfortunately. Karen is also an excellent trainer. UQ has used both of these trainers in the past and we thoroughly recommend them.

    Due to a lack of sufficient interest, I've cancelled the PeopleTools Foundations course and replaced it with 2 other courses - PeopleTools Delta (Rel 8.51) and PeopleTools 1 (Rel 8.51). Please see below for the final schedule, including the maximum cost for each course. I've also attached copies of the outlines for each course.

    Week 1 (21 - 25 Nov) - University of Queensland, St Lucia Campus

    - XML Publisher (Rel 8.51) - 2 days (21 - 22 Nov).
    Worst case estimate of cost = $900 per person

    - PeopleSoft Test Framework - 2 days (23 - 24 Nov).
    Worst case estimate of cost = $750 per person (6 participants) or $450 (10 participants)
    Please refer to attached document for course outline. UQ is sending both functional and technical staff to this course. You should not send only tech staff, as they will probably only operate in a support role for the functional staff working directly with the PTF.
    Worst case estimate of cost = $900 per person

    - PeopleSoft Technical Overview - 1 day (25 Nov) [Note - not yet confirmed]
    I asked Tim Burns (iO technical trainer) about the usefulness of this course for functional staff, versus PeopleTools 1. Here are his comments. Please note - UQ typically puts its functional staff through the P/Tools 1 course, but your functional staff might prefer to 'wade' rather than dive into the pool.
    Technical Overview is a good, brief intro for functional people. As far as the technical overview versus PeopleTools 1, it really depends on what the functional people are looking for and what they need. We can adjust the content a bit based on the amount of time available and what people need and want, ie we could still do a little bit of hands-on building.
    The way I've done it in the past, the PeopleSoft Technical Overview course is a fast-paced look at the various tools and PeopleSoft concepts. It is mostly demonstration and lecture. PeopleTools 1 is more "hands-on" with all the participants creating simple applications in Application Designer -- creating record definitions, pages, components, navigation hyperlinks, etc. I think a little bit of hands-on experience with the tools is valuable for functional people, to get an appreciation and better understanding of how the software is put together. Also, touching the tools and building a few simple things keeps people engaged with the material rather than just watching and listening to a whole day of demonstrations. It is definitely OK for functional people to attend PeopleTools 1, but for some people it is probably a little too detailed in terms of low-level property settings and such for their needs.

    * Week 2 (28 - 30 Nov) - Griffith University, Gold Coast Campus

    - PeopleSoft Query (Rel 8.51) - this will be the Query 1 & 2 courses compressed into 3 days.
    Worst case estimate of cost = $970 per person
    Very limited number of places available.

    * Week 3 (5 - 9 Dec) - University of Queensland, St Lucia Campus

    - PeopleSoft Integration Tools (Rel 8.51) - 5 days.
    Worst case estimate of cost = $1600 per person
    Limited number of places available.

    - Student Financials Fundamentals (Rel 9) - 4 days (5 - 8 Dec).
    Worst case estimate of cost = $1900 per person

    * Week 4 (12 - 16 Dec) - University of Queensland, St Lucia Campus

    - PeopleTools 1 (Rel 8.51) - 3 days (probably 12 - 14 Dec).
    Worst case estimate of cost = $1350 per person

    - PeopleTools Delta (Rel 8.51) - 2 days (probably 15 - 16 Dec).
    Worst case estimate of cost = $900 per person

    - PeopleTools Foundation (Rel 8.51) - CANCELLED. There's been a poor uptake on this course, such that it will be too expensive to run.

    The University of Queensland will be coordinating the delivery of the training courses and will invoice the other participating universities. The daily charge for the courses is governed by the number of participants, but for your planning purposes you can work on the worst case estimates listed above.

    If you've not already contacted me, please let me know ASAP if you're interested in any of these training courses.

    For those who have already made a booking or registered interest, I will be sending out a separate direct email later today or tomorrow. It will include a spreadsheet listing my understanding of the bookings to date.

    Regards

    Ian
