  • 1.  URGENT: Oracle Workshops - July & November 2013

    Posted 06-11-2013 10:15 PM
    Dear Colleagues

Oracle has kindly offered to run workshops on various items of new functionality delivered for Campus Solutions. These workshops will build on the very successful Program Enrolment and Activity Management workshop held immediately prior to last year's Alliance Downunder conference.

It has been agreed that one or more workshops will be run in late July and in November (aligned with the Alliance Downunder conference).

    July Workshops

    · Will commence on 29 July and run for 2½ days, ie 29-31 July.

    · The workshops will be hosted by ANU in Canberra. Thanks to Griffith and ICMS for also offering to host these workshops, but we thought Canberra was the most central location.

    · Workshop topics:

§ Program Enrolment & Activity Management (29 & 30 July) - given the importance of this functionality, we thought it appropriate to repeat this workshop. Program Enrolment will be covered on Day 1 and Activity Management on Day 2.

§ Research Student Tracking (31 July) - this is a relatively straight forward topic and will probably take 2-3 hours.

§ Wrap up and potential group discussion (31 July) on institutions' plans for implementation on any/all of the above modules.

§ The format will be lecture/presentation style providing an overview of the feature, the types of use cases for it, and an overview of setting up and using the feature (based upon what Oracle has delivered up to and including the April 2013 Bundle). The Oracle resources for delivering this will be Gary Allen, Warren Denison, and possibly Natalie Doblo from OCS.

    · Cost - there will be a small fee to cover the cost of lunches, etc.

    · You can choose to just attend days 1 or 2 or 1+2 or all 3 days. We doubt it would be worthwhile travelling to Canberra just for Day 3.

    · URGENT: We need to know about attendance ASAP. Please respond by email (i.holmes@uq.edu.au)<mailto:i.holmes@uq.edu.au?subject=Oracle%20Workshops%20-%20July> by COB this Friday with expressions of interest. Please don't respond unless you are reasonably certain you will be attending. Please also advise which day(s) you propose to attend. My apologies for the short notice.

    November Workshops

    · Will be held on 4 and 5 November, immediately prior to the Alliance Downunder conference.

    · The topics will be the new Rules Engine and Evaluation Management.

    · More details will be provided closer to the date via the ADU 2013 web site.

    · Cost - to be determined, but probably broadly similar to 2012.

Graduation Management was also discussed as a possible workshop topic, however as this feature is relatively small it was suggested by Oracle they provide an overview and content via a 1 hour webinar. No decision has yet been made on a date. Stay tuned for further details in the coming weeks.

    Hi Ian,

Will the July workshop be a follow on from the workshop we attended in November 2012.  I would like to see it cover each topic in more detail especially topic like how the "rules engine" will work, and what the student interface will look like.

We are currently in the "investigation phase" of our PE implimentation so we would like to be able to drill down further than we did in the last workshop.

    Cheers

    Ali

    Hi Steve

I was wondering if would be worthwhile for me to go to this, if we are
likely to get any projects coming out of this. I am keen to get my
knowledge up to date on some of Oracle's new initiatives in case they can
    be utilised in future projects.

    Your thoughts please.
