Hi Nader,
Daniel’s post below reminded me about the geocoding…
We use QAS to add SA1 codes, CCD codes, DPID, and Barcodes to student addresses, which our Planning, Quality and Reporting unit uses for reasons outlined by Daniel.
We added the SA1 codes around October/November last year and are looking to retire CCD codes in April/May this year.
Thanks
Richard.

Nader,
RMIT does use real time validation software using the QAS software mentioned in a previous post. We only validate Australian addresses, but it is down to street level. We have not experienced problems with performance although did have some issues (I can get more technical details if you are interested) around installing the software in a multi-tier highly available system (multiple app and web servers behind load balancer). We load an update of the data quarterly.
Our largest issue is around what to do with addresses that don't quite match the database of addresses. We have opted to allow students to override the validation in a situation where they don't believe the validated address is correct. Overall the software has improved data integrity, however this ability to override does sometimes leave us with data that still needs cleansing. We do employ some batch checks to clean up remaining data. We opted for the override option to avoid calls into the service desk when the validation did not match.
We are currently looking at geo-coding software for QAS as well.
Happy to speaks to you more about our setup if you are interested.
Regards,
Michael

Hi Nader,
At the University of Adelaide we have been using QAS to clean and geocode student address data so that it can be used indicate students’ socio-economic areas of origin. This information in turn is used to predict funding based on these placements. Our particular implementation was based on the process developed by the University of Newcastle.
The validation itself is an offline batch process. For the purpose above we’re only interested in the PERM address type, which we export from PeopleSoft and run through QAS in batch mode. We then re-upload the cleaned and geocoded data back into PeopleSoft. QAS is able to determine student addresses about 95-98% of the time, the remainder requiring manual intervention.
This process, being off-line has no impact on system performance. However a much nicer solution would have been to implement validation at the point of data entry, but this was out of scope of this particular project.
Hope this helps in some way ☺
Regards,

Hi All,
UNSW is currently investigating the implementation of address validation.
Has anyone implemented address validation with Campus Solution 9?
If so, what suppliers are recommended?
What are the lessons learned from implementing address validation?
Any impacts on system performance associated with implementing address validation?
Any information/advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
