Elections, Alliance Down Under and other HEUG stuff

    Hi all

In response to Jason’s email below, I wanted to give a bit of a plug to our region for my position in the upcoming AG elections.

As part of this year’s Advisory Group elections I am up for re-election this year for the Technical Advisory Group (TAG). I have just completed my three-year term, so am nominating for a second (and final) term.

I believe having an ANZ Rep on the TAG is beneficial and important for many reasons, including ensuring communication from the group expands to our community here (particularly the ANZ Technical SIG, to keep everyone updated on TAG activities), to enable us to advocate for particular items of interest/benefit to the region, and in general in making the region more visible to these groups – for example, you will notice more things like Webinars happening in a ‘friendly’ time for us, and even US-based TAG members attending ADU this year!

However, me being re-elected back onto the group is going to be a very tough challenge, particularly this year, as the TAG is amalgamating with the BI/Reporting Advisory Group, meaning we have twice as many people from the two groups combined up for re-election as there are places available on the final amalgamated group. This alone has reduced the chance of getting back on by 50%, and that is outside of any new nominations.

It’s also a bit concerning that I was not voted onto the group originally – I happened to be ‘in the right place at the right time’ when someone had to withdraw from the group at the beginning of their term. Before this we had no representation on the group for several years.

I have made some good contacts across the world during my time on the TAG, however to have a chance at re-election I will need strong backing from our region as well.

As such, please help me with this process by voting for me!

In order to do so, you will need to be subscribed to the TECH.PS HEUG listserv before next week Friday, as per Jason’s email below.

(Note you can always unsubscribe again after the elections if ‘Technical’ is not your area of interest, and you can choose to only receive a summary email weekly of posts too, so it’s not too disturbing!)

I will be doing my part to vote for others from the region, and I’d appreciate your support too.

Let’s hope these elections result in a good representation from ANZ across the AGs so we can continue to have a voice in this space.

    Thanks all!

    Cheers
    Nikki

    Hi all,

Please see the following pieces of important information from the ANZ Student SIG…

    Advisory Group Elections
It is that time of year again when elections are about begin for the HEUG Advisory Groups.

The Advisory Groups are an important part of the HEUG organisation and an essential tool for our institutions to provide feedback and advocate for functionality with Oracle.

Having the ANZ region’s voice heard is important for the direction of the product. The ANZ Student SIG strongly advises that your institution takes the time to vote and help us ensure that we have representation from our region in every area we are able.

    What you need to know

    * In order to be eligible to vote for a particular Advisory Group, you need to be subscribed on the listserv for that area (e.g. to vote on the Student Records AG you need to be subscribed to the Student Records listserv).
    * You have until 6 October to be subscribed.
    * You can view and subscribe to the listservs by going here: https://www.heug.org/p/us/to/
    * Voting will open 11 October and close 27 October.
    * You should receive an email notification with a link.
    * Your vote will be weighted for your institution (so if multiple people at your institution are voting you should vote for the same people!)
    * The ANZ SIG is aware of the following people from our region being nominated (if there are others out there, please respond and let us all know!):
Liz Kitto, University of Auckland, Academic Advisement Advisory Group
Shayne Simpson, University of the Sunshine Coast, Student Records Advisory Group
Suzanna Wong, University of Queensland, Financial Aid Advisory Group
    * If you have any difficulty, you should contact support@heug.org<mailto:support@heug.org>.
More information on Advisory Groups, current members and the election process can be found here: https://www.heug.org/page/advisory-groups

    Alliance Down Under Conference
The Alliance Down Under Conference moves closer, with an exciting agenda of sessions to be released any day now. The ADU is in Brisbane this year on the gorgeous South Bank, and will run from 8-10 November.

Early bird registration closes 6 October, so register now to get the cheapest fare!

You can register or learn more about the ADU conference here: https://www.heug.org/adu
