Who doesn’t want free money: The implementation of an online Scholarship Awards and Bursaries (SABs) at MacEwan University. In 2017, MacEwan implemented a new system for the management of SABs. The goal of the project was to improve the overall management and administration of SAB and more specifically to improve the way students identify and apply for SABs. Students can log into MyStudentSystem and access their SAB application as an item on the To Do List. From the To Do List they can view targeted SABs and submit their application or save their application and return as many times as they wish up until the close date. Students can apply for multiple SABs with one application. This takes the stress out of the application process for Students and allows them the flexibility to complete and submit their application at their convenience. The SAB features also include an electronic offer and disbursement of funds and automated offers to students who are eligible for entrance and continuing scholarships. This presentation will demonstrate the following benefits of the online SAB process to other institutions:• Increased efficiency in the application and adjudication process making it easier for staff to coordinate the process with greater accuracy.• Improved student services by making all available SAB in the Student Service Centre and streamlining the application process. • Increase the SAB award rate because the Student Centre now becomes the one stop shop for students to view and submit their application. • With a more streamlined SAB process, it makes it easier for the university to be accountable to the students, donors, and the government for the funds they disburse. • Having scholarships available will also increase the potential for students to remain in the program after their first year of study. • Make students happy by putting their needs first and reducing the cost of university.• Making MacEwan more competitive to potential and current students.
