Often technical training has to be delivered desk-side in production, or during user acceptance testing which is a last minute attempt to transfer knowledge. At Go Live in 2005, the University of Calgary originally had three training environments which we were using to copy data from UA then to QA then copied from one environment to the other; however, migrations were seriously behind and the data was beginning to become stale. At the request of a business case and a subsequent PeopleSoft Environments Refresh Project we reviewed the strategy behind this process and have streamlined it to a fine tuned system. We have two training environments master and development/delivery environment copied from each other. Beginning with the master being a copy of production; it is left to the technical training teams in all three suites (Human Capital Management, Finance and Supply Chain and Campus Solutions) to seed the data with scenarios typical to end user training. The data is seeded in the master environment and once seeding is completed, the master environment is copied to the delivery environment. We enjoy a flash copy one per week from the master environment. All scenarios are restored back to the seeded data and end users can actually press SAVE after manipulating data and do no harm to the system!
