Hello everyone,
Have you ever had to troubleshoot a new or existing equation and found yourself stuck? AI tools like Copilot, ChatGPT, Gemini, and others can be surprisingly helpful, but what's the best way to format your equation for them?
Equations in PeopleSoft aren't exactly traditional code; they're more like pseudocode. Printing them out doesn't make them any easier for AI to interpret. However, the XML representation is code. Here's what worked for me:
- In the Equation Editor, select View in XML Format from under the Equation Edit Function.
- Copy the XML into a text editor (I used Notepad to save a copy).
- Paste the XML into your AI tool of choice (I used Copilot, but others work too).

The AI quickly identified the issue I was facing and even suggested improvements that made the equation more efficient allowing me to learn something new in the process!
Is this old news and I am the last to know about it? Has anyone else tried this approach?
