PS Query & SQL

  • 1.  Metadata Query for File Parser

    Posted 4 days ago

    Hi everyone!

Kind of a harebrained scheme maybe... I have a a group of queries that have been developed in our PRD environment that need to be brought down into our TST environment. Normally, I wait for our next scheduled refresh (we normally refresh our non-PRDs one a quarter or so, sometimes longer). I'm going to need these queries in our TST environment sooner than I was expecting, which means before the next refresh happens.

I know there are metadata records that store a query's ~stuff~ (PSQRYDEFN, PSQRYSELECT, etc.) so I'm wondering if anyone has ever created a PS Query to pull the information out of one environment, then set up a File Parser definition to load the info into another environment?

I figure it might take the same amount of time for me to poke at this long enough to come up with a solution as it would to just recreate the queries in our TST environment by hand, but some of these queries are large and annoying... So if anyone already has something set up already that they could share, or if this even sounds like it could work, please let me know!

I'm also more than willing to eat my words if anyone thinks this is ill-advised. Just an idea that came to me when I was walking around at lunch haha.

    Thanks in advance!

    Zach

    Hi Zach,

I've never seen this done as you're describing, but your tech team should be able to migrate queries from one environment to another in a matter of minutes. There's a delivered PeopleTools solution for this.
