    Hello community,

    I just created an enhancement request within Oracle Support Communities for Schedule Query to have the option to only send email with attached results only if the query returned results: https://community.oracle.com/mosc/discussion/4591093/schedule-query-to-only-send-email-when-rows-are-returned#latest

    Adam,

    This seems to require end-user training for scenarios where email notifications may not be received (e.g., blank messages or failures). My thought is that it's acceptable for users to receive a blank result, so they can differentiate it from a failure scenario - where the email simply didn't come through. Curious - what's your plan to manage and address this?

    My thoughts exactly.  I prefer to get an email than not one.


    Maybe modify it to not have an attachment with a "no results found" message.

    I have created what I call "notification queries" and all is handled within the query itself. There is a union that returns one row, and it evaluates if there is data, and if there is no data, then it divides by zero, the scheduled query fails. Thus, no email is sent. Schedule under a "current" recurrence, so it queues the next run regardless of success or no success.

    Great idea except it has already been posted and you will be happy to know that it exists with PeopleTools 8.62.  If you go to this link, you can see it under Distribution Detail screenshot.  

    Suppress Empty Result: Select to suppress sending query result through an email if the query returns empty result set. When this check box is not selected, an email is sent with "No matching rows were found" as the subject if the query returns no data.

    Thank you so much, Daniel! 😊This is a good compromise-it sounds like the email is still sent, but with no attachment if there is no results and that is a good indication to the end user that the process is still running!

    According to the 8.62 New Features Overview (which I am attaching since there are other query features), it states:

    Suppressing Emails With Empty Result in Scheduled Query
    In PeopleTools 8.62, PeopleSoft Query introduces a checkbox on Distribution Detail dialog box to prevent empty results being sent through email from Scheduled Query page. This checkbox is deselected by default. This feature enables you to indicate your preference to receive no email at all when a scheduled query with email output type returns empty result set.

    Which seems to me like no email is sent at all.

    We recently implemented 8.62, and the "No matching rows found" is stated in the title of the email which is very nice. Saves time opening the attachment to find nothing.

    Most people love it, but yesterday, we did get a ticket from someone saying they didn't get their daily query results. I'm going to guess they have auto-sorting set up on their email, so I guess the lesson learned is to warn people when you change ANYTHING.
