Community Service Projects during Alliance Down Under 2015
Guide Dogs of Queensland
Every minute of the day the team at Guide Dogs of Queensland is working to equip, empower and educate people who are blind or vision impaired through a range of tailored services and programs. All are offered to clients free of charge but it is perhaps our beloved Guide Dogs which attract the most attention, yet these devoted animals are the most costly to provide. The dogs will be onsite Thursday, 5 November 10:00 AM – 12:00 noon and 2:30 PM – 4:30 Pm and Friday, 6 November 10:00 AM – 12:00 noon.
THE PYJAMA FOUNDATION
Since 2004, The Pyjama Foundation, a not-for-profit children’s charity, has been working to break the cycle of disadvantage that affects so many children in foster or alternative care. The Pyjama Foundation recruits, screens, trains and supports community volunteers known as Pyjama Angels. Volunteers are matched with a child in care and visit them each week to deliver The Pyjama Foundation’s Love of Learning program. This learning-based mentoring program has produced positive results for the children including the improvement of their literacy and numeracy skills, increased self-confidence and the widening of their networks and experiences within the community. Representatives will be onsite Wednesday 4 November 6:00 - 7:30 pm, Thursday, 5 November10:00 AM – 12:00 noon and 2:30 PM – 4:30 Pm and Friday, 6 November 10:00 AM – 12:00 noon.
