EBS Advisory Group - Mid Year Review

We are a little more than halfway through our year, and I wanted to share with you some of the great work your EBS Advisory Group has been doing for you, our HEUG membership!

Our goals leaving Alliance 2016 were to continue and build upon our strong partnership with Oracle, lead the community with the use of MOSC Ideas as a supplement to our Product Enhancement Tracker, continue our networking and growing of HEUG, and lastly, to expand our communication channels with you.

Welby Lai (Track Chair) has a number of awesome presentations lined up for Alliance 2017, including key Oracle speakers again due to our continued partnership! We sincerely hope to see you in February at Alliance 2017!

WHAT'S NEW

EBS 12.1 Premier Support Extended

Oracle EBS 12.1 is now covered by Premier Support until December 31, 2021. There is no extended support. Oracle Lifetime Support Policy document is available at http://www.oracle.com/us/support/library/lifetime-support-applications-069216.pdf.

Premier Support includes new EBS 12.1 patches for:

·         Individual product families (e.g. Oracle Financials)

·         Quarterly security updates released via the Critical Patch Update process

·         New technology stack certifications with server-based components

·         New certifications for end-user desktops and mobile devices

Will Windows Monthly Rollups Work with EBS?

Microsoft announced that they will release security and reliability patches in a single monthly rollup update instead of as individual patches.  They also announced the availability of a single security-only rollup. This change was effective from October 2016 onwards and applies to:

·         Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1)

·         Windows 8.1

·         Windows Server 2008 R2

·         windows Server 2012

·         Windows Server 2012 R2

Microsoft monthly rollups and security-only updates are intended to be backwards-compatible with all applications. Existing Windows functionality does not change. It is expected that these updates will be fully-compatible with Oracle E-Business Suite 12.1 and 12.2. Do not expect Oracle to release regular certification announcements for them. EBS customers do not have to wait for explicit certification announcements before applying Microsoft monthly updates or security-only updates to their Windows desktops or servers.

EVENTS

The Alliance conference is a great place for keeping up with developments on Oracle products and sharing experiences with your higher-ed peers.  In Las Vegas, our member institutions will be presenting on topics ranging from cloud implementations, R12 upgrade experiences, reporting solutions and custom development alternatives.  In addition, Oracle speakers will also be providing insight on best practices to maximize the benefits of EBS and cloud solutions.  Early bird registration is now open!
