EDUCAUSE Enterprise and Information Technology Conference 2011

This week I was part of a small HEUG delegation -- including Steve Hahn, HEUG VP for External Relations and Stan Jakubik, HEUG Past President -- that attended the EDUCAUSE Enterprise Technology conference. This conference is designed for senior IT managers in higher education and focused on enterprise technology. It was great to see and talk to a number of HEUG members while there.

A few themes emerged from the conference that should be of some interest to HEUG members. One theme was the value of establishing standardization and best practices across enterprises and across the industry. This is a frequest topic of conversation among our many advisory groups. Another theme is cost containment -- certainly one we have heard quite a bit about over the past few years. I thought a lot at the conference about the value of how the HEUG community wisely leverages its collective knowledge to limit the reliance on paid consulting help. Still another theme was 'the CIO of the future' -- a theme I hope we will cover in some of our new executive forum programs this year.
