Change is Inevitable

One thing that remains constant is that nothing stays the same (and that is probably not a bad thing!). Over the past few years, the HEUG Board has been taking a close look at the entire organization, from our Advisory Groups to our Board of Directors all the way to our conferences and vendor partners. The landscape of technology within Higher Education is rapidly changing, and that is very obvious when you look at our ERP systems. In order to maintain relevance, it is imperative that we review and update our structures and approaches in order to more rapidly respond to a dynamic environment.

The last years have seen a consolidation of some of our Advisory Groups and recently the Board of Directors voted to approve a reduction of their numbers by one-third. Reviews are still ongoing for our conferences and to how they engage and present to our membership as well as for our remaining Advisory Groups to identify how they will evolve as Cloud becomes more the dominant player.

Change is never easy, but it is something that we all face in all aspects of our life. As we start to change our models, the Board of Directors wants to make sure that we are inclusive of input from all our diverse membership. We may not always get it right, but we are committed to acknowledging mistakes and learning from them moving forward.

If anyone has any thoughts, questions, concerns or complaints, I and my fellow Board members are completely open and inviting to hear them. We can only be successful by moving together in the same direction and I hope we can count on our amazing membership to stand by us in this pivotal moment of change to evolve our community and organization into an even more amazing “butterfly” at the end of the process.

Cheers,

Jason
