With this year’s Conference, the Midwest HEUG has expanded to welcome PSUG Members and been has officially renamed the MIDHEUG Alliance Conference.  In addition to welcoming these folks to the conference we are delighted to have Scott Thornton, Controller for Wisconsin Department of Transportation working with the Conference Planning committee.  As a member of the planning committee, Scott has served as co-chair for the General Interest Track and has helped us select sessions throughout the conference that will attract attendees from his community.

I conducted a short emailed interview with Scott shortly after registration opened for the MIDHEUG Alliance Conference.  Here is what he had to say:

What are your hopes for this deepened alliance between the Public Sector and Higher Education User Groups?

The annual Alliance user group conference brings the Public Sector and Higher Education groups together to share and learn about issues, functionality and future features of our PeopleSoft applications.  The Higher Education User Group has had a long history of hosting regional user conferences across the country.  This year we are excited to have the Public Sector User Group (PSUG) included in the regional Alliance conferences including the MIDHEUG Alliance Conference this fall.   Many of the challenges that we face are experiences that are common in both higher education and government.  The Alliance conference is a great opportunity to expand our networks and collaborate between our groups.

As a member of PSUG, are there particular sessions you are looking forward to attending at the conference in October?

There are a number of sessions  in the agenda that will be useful to PSUG members that I’m looking forward to.  There are at least 6 sessions in the HCM track, 7 in the Technical track, 4 in the Financials track, 5 in the Project Management track, and 3 in the General Interest track that would have universal interest to both PSUG and HEUG members.  I am anticipating learning a lot from both the HEUG and PSUG presenters and participants.

Looking at the current list of Vendors who will be on hand at the conference, are there companies who will be presenting and/or have a table that you are especially looking forward to taking with?

I’m looking forward to seeing what the vendor community has to show us at the conference as well.   I recognize a number that have worked with the Public Sector and expect to learn more from those I’m not familiar with.

What else would you like to tell your fellow PSUG members as they consider attending the MIDHEUG Alliance Conference?

The MIDHEUG Alliance is a great opportunity for PSUG members in the Midwest region to attend a user conference closer to home.  The conference includes networking opportunities and informative presentations from our peers in the public sector as well as the higher education community.  We look forward to seeing you in Brookfield!

As a reminder, you can register for MIDHEUG Alliance ’18 at the Early Bird Rate through Friday, September 7, 2018.
