Through the above-described custom development, UP's department that coordinates Research management now has the ability to centrally record and publish all known external research funding opportunities and their call scheduled. UP researchers seeking research grant funding can therefore search this repository and respond to calls for applications. Should they elect to respond to a specific call and submit an application, then this system requires them to capture basic information about research submission, principal investigators, co-investigators, funding sought, etc - and then tracks the submission over its life cycle from "under consideration" through to award ... with workflows to route these applications for review before submission, or to route to legal advisors to finalise the legal contract, before alerting UP's Finance Dept of the need to create Cost Centres and Projects to track the research in a subsequent "Post Award" phase. Reporting and analytics facilitate an insight into UP's external research funding pipeline.
