The world of research is constantly evolving and the Senior Management of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) sees the need to define a business and technology strategic solution for the management and support of PolyU’s research-related activities. A solution that could enable evidence-based decisions, promote collaboration, strengthen governance and compliance, simplify administration and leverage our assets. The Information Technology Services Office started a study in 2014 and identified major areas that the future research support should address to.A development roadmap of new systems was mapped out and implementation was carried out by phases. Major stakeholders together with IT professionals conducted a series of business process review workshops to work out the new process models. Over the years, several streams of projects in relation to research project life cycle management, research student administration, products, research facility & equipment and research analytics are being implemented or are about to implement. The landscape of the IT solutions comprises a mixture of different technologies including products such as Elsevier’s Pure for a centralized research information system and CPA Global’s Memotech for IP management. Workflow tools are also adopted in customized solutions in managing research project life cycle and ethical application processes.
