Testing Plans and How to Ignore Them

Quality Assurance Plans are among the required documents during the Planning Process for any project. From the Quality Assurance team’s perspective, one of the crucial plans submitted were the testing plans, as it can guide the team in making sure that the implementation of the project is done according to the agreed upon requirements. But plans do not always go as planned. In fact, in the case of the University of the Philippines eUP Project, much of the plans were not followed and seemed to have been forgotten in the documentation cabinet as soon as they were approved. Still, the show must go on. This is the story of how the eUP Quality Assurance team dealt with the testing and reviews, with minimal to none reliance on the Partner’s testing plans, all for the sake of having the project live on. Test Plans had to be revised, adapted to new realities, or altogether be junked and replaced. Ad hoc tests had to be done to verify compliance to changing requirements. Post Mortem activities reveal numerous lessons on project quality assurance management.
