Taking the Message to the Students

Mobile apps are driving the daily activities of our students. Students are always on the go and their attention span can be limited. So how do administrators reach the student population to relay pertinent information? By engaging the students with push notifications and text messages allows administrators a quick and easy way to reach users while also providing a prime opportunity to re-engage inactive users. Using an app messaging platform, we are able to create a personalized user experience while also collecting data to perform an analysis of our users.

Getting relevant content via the desired medium is crucial to effective student communication. Using campus roles and affiliations allows us to target very specific user groups with messages that are relevant to who they are and where they are on their higher ed journey. Mobile messaging is one of the most effective ways to reach students who are rarely without a mobile device in hand. Utilizing Modo Labs Communicate Platform and Grey-Heller's Messaging Center, we are able to send intelligent push notifications and banner messages to individuals and groups while avoiding "spamming" all users with messages that are only relevant to some. This also allows for email to be used in a more purposeful way as part of the overall communication strategy.
