The University of Hong Kong launched its Human Capital Management System (HCMS) using Oracle’s PeopleSoft Human Capital Management software in 2011. Since the launch, there have been regular needs of program change due to various reasons, such as change in business needs, enhancement of functionalities and bug fixing, etc. In order to manage the change requests effectively, and to enforce proper control in code versioning and migrations in different instances, we implemented a third-party Change Management tool for the HCMS in 2013. The tool, together with our in-house developed change request approval system, enable the establishment of a well-organized application change management process. In this presentation, we would like to share our experience of the implementation of the Application Change Management tool, the main features and usage, and the benefits gained. The presentation will also cover the design of the change request approval workflows, how automate is the code migration process, and our consideration on segregation of duty, etc.
