Creating and Measuring Outcomes in IT Applications

06-22-2017 04:53 PM

The success of our modules or applications is achieved not only by the business need being met, but also how easily that the business need is completed. Thanks to the evolving nature of social media and society, today’s users readily provide the feedback of when those needs are not being met. Instead of being frustrated by this response, we are being proactive and asking what is and what is not working for our users.

Through a variety of tools, such as Google Analytics, Splunk, and traditional user feedback techniques, you can understand what the users are doing, where they are having trouble, and how you can make the experience better. Florida State University’s User Experience team has created a comprehensive analytics plan. As each new application is released, the UX team talks to users about the gaps that the application can fill.

Additionally, once the application is developed and released, data is collected to track the improvements or challenges with the new release. Through this deliberate effort, stakeholders can make decisions about the priorities of what needs to be enhanced and have a better understanding of how the users are using the applications.

This session will be of value for participants who are looking to strategically make decisions about the improvements to their applications. Tips and tricks will be provided regarding how to easily collect the data, and ensure that it goes to good use!

Learning Objectives:

1 - Learn about different analytics tools you can use on your campus
2 - Share an Analytics Plan
3 - Learn how to share the results to make decisions
