Nowadays, effective communication is the key to help prospective applicants in the admission processes in the higher education sector. Not only for prospective students, students who are already studying in higher education institutions also contact the administrative staff with enquires about scholarships, courses, fees, pre-requisites and request of transcripts of their academic results. The administrative staff through different channels continue to help address the queries of the prospective and registered students. This takes a great deal of effort and can occasionally delay or make mistakes in the processes. In The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), we are adopting On-Line Chatbot for instant messaging, making it highly beneficial and effective for the prospective and existing students to choose their favour messenger tools to obtain automated answers. We find that universities using online chatbots have greater chances of drawing the attention of their students. Through these chatbots, higher education institutions can provide effective channels for dispensing relevant information about their courses. In this session, we will present how the underlying technology is used by HKUST to help our potential students and existing students. The session will cover the following: Our Challenges - Why does HKUST consider the Chatbot solutionOur Requirements - The Chatbot functions - Web and Channel Plug inThe Orchestra - How do Chatbot, NLP, and AI work togetherExpansion of our solution into AI AspectEvaluation – How does HKUST select the right Chatbot toolScenario Sharing 1 - Attract more students to join our School of Business ManagementScenario Sharing 2 – Turn into Live chat as contingencyScenario Sharing 3 – Image and Speed RecognitionOur future plan of deploying ChatbotQ&A
