In its most recent university strategic plan, PLAN 2020, Loyola University Chicago outlined a goal to increase student retention and graduation rates by 3 % . In order to achieve this growth and increase retention, the university must clearly monitor the outreach to students. In an effort to increase the retention rate from Year 1 to Year 2, the university has implemented the Engagement and Persistence Pilot, where Student Success Strategists will conduct timely and targeted outreach to a pilot group of students. This outreach could result in tracked referrals to university resources and offices or specific interventions that are suggested to assist and support the students. The Student Success Strategists will utilize a number of options within the Peoplesoft platform to document and monitor the outreach, referrals and interventions. The university hopes that by monitoring these students and utilizing these tools with Peoplesoft it will be determined that more students were will be engaged in university and persist at the university. The goal of this pilot program is to increase the retention rate in the pilot group. The Peoplesoft Student Records tools will allow us to document, monitor and evaluate individual student information and compare the pilot group with the control group to see if the goal for this pilot program is achieved.
