At the University of Newcastle we have two teams heavily involved with delivering both BAU and IT projects involving our student systems. Over the past few years we’ve run several large scale strategic projects with these teams, including our 9.2 Campus Solutions upgrade, Digital Student Data implementation, and a new online Admissions application using Oracle Service Cloud and OPA. Each of these have been delivered using differing project methodologies and approaches, to varying levels of success. We’ve learned the hard way which methods give what advantages and disadvantages, and how a hybrid approach often gives us the best result! During all of these project implementations, we’ve also had to juggle BAU impacts and demands, and ensure our teams work collaboratively to ensure both project and BAU success.
