Creating a customized registration and concession application process for students with disabilities

06-12-2019 11:04 AM

The Disability Rights Unit (DRU) at the University of the Witwatersrand supports all students and staff with disabilities through the use of innovative and accessible learning and working environments. Registration with the unit is necessary in order to acquire the relevant support offered. In the last 2 years, DRU switched to an online registration system using one of Wits’ electronic form platforms which is an isolated platform with limited security. A new online approach was sought to utilize Peoplesoft to create a customized, integrated and secure process where students with disabilities could register with DRU and apply for extra-time and other concessions through the student self-service portal. Using Peoplesoft will allow for a safe way to store and access valuable student information, with the added benefit of increasing the accuracy of the university’s disability statistics. This presentation aims to share information on how Peoplesoft can be customized for this purpose.
