Hi Everyone
I hope the year has started well for all of your institutions! 2016 looks like it's going to be a big year for all of us with Campus Solutions 9.2 now released and (for Australian institutions) an upcoming Federal election with new higher education policy announcements likely. This will be keeping us pretty busy and I hope we can all work collaboratively to minimise the impacts on our universities. I wanted to make a couple of important announcements to kick off 2016:
ANZ HEUG Executive Committee
The Executive Committee membership for the new year has been finalised and I would like to welcome John Reed (UNSW), Cathy McGrath (Griffith) and Russell Baron (Auckland) who will join Gail White (UoN) as our previous President, Allan Tabor (UniSA) and myself. I want to thank them for nominating and look forward to working with the on the issues that matter to our HEUG community. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Maddy McMaster (RMIT) and Maureen Bowen (UQ), who stepped down at the 2015 Alliance Down Under (ADU) Conference, for all of their generous contributions to the Executive over the years.
Mini-HEUG
Following on from the announcement at ADU 2015 that the mini-HEUG will be in Canberra this year I can confirm it will be held on the 5 & 6 May. Further details on the schedule and registration will be made available soon but please put these dates in your diary. Unfortunately for our NZ colleagues our direct flights between Canberra and Wellington won't be in up and running in time for this event!
Jason McIntyre
Finally I want to announce that our colleague Jason McIntyre at Sunshine Coast will be inducted into the HEUG Hall of Fame at Alliance 2016 in Seattle. This is an incredible honour in recognition of his contributions to the global HEUG through his enthusiastic and tireless PAG representation which started at ANU and continued at USC. You will of course remember that Jason was also inducted into the ANZ HoF in November so the accolades keep coming! Please join me in congratulating Jason. It's an important acknowledgement and reminder of how ANZ can and does contribute on the global stage.
Cheers, Mark
ANZ HEUG President
