    Posted 09-28-2017 08:55 AM
    Dear Colleagues

    HEUG Global Exchange Scholarship Scheme

I am excited to announce that the ANZ HEUG Executive Committee, in consultation with the HEUG Board, recently endorsed a proposal to pilot a scholarship scheme on behalf of the HEUG, to partially fund ANZ HEUG members’ participation in international conference events.

One of the key challenges for HEUG members in attending conference activities outside of their region is the cost of participation. Despite this, delegates that have been able to attend conferences outside their regions and have had great impact through presentations with wide appeal, and made important connections with other HEUG members across the globe. We also want to recognise and support members who want to be able to make broader contributions through conference organising activities, regional HEUG administration, and HEUG working parties. This scheme is to recognise these contributions; foster global networks; and contribute to the interchange of ideas across the world.

The goals of the Pilot are:

    · To broaden the HEUG’s internationalisation strategy and recognise the contributions of its members globally

    · To promote members’ continued involvement in the HEUG, and contribute to succession planning for HEUG leadership

    · To support diversity in Alliance and international conference content, introducing audiences to more of the innovations and directions being taken by higher education systems around the world

    · To align with other strategies for improving the quantity and quality of conference presentations and the development of a leadership experience at the Alliance conference

    · To help devise a sustainable scholarship program that can be rolled out across all regions of the HEUG community

Two scholarships are being offered in this pilot and recipients will be announced at the ADU conference in November 2017.

    HEUG Presenter Scholarship

This scholarship will support someone who has had a presentation accepted by an international Alliance conference to facilitate their participation. A co-contribution from the HEUG will hopefully encourage more members to propose sessions at conferences outside their region and will likely have the support of their institutions. This co-contribution, along with the waiving of the registration fee for presenters, will significantly reduce the cost of participation for delegates.

    Eligibility:

    · Is an employee of a HEUG institutional member

    · Has an accepted paper for an upcoming international HEUG conference outside of their designated HEUG region (USA, Canada, Asia, EMEA, Latin America, ANZ)

    · Has not already received a HEUG Scholarship previously

    · Has not already received support from the HEUG through their role as a Board member, Advisory Group member or similar previously

    · Attends their regional conference scheduled prior to the international conference for which they are applying

    · Provides a statement outlining their accepted presentation, the accepting conference, and how the scholarship will support them in being an ongoing contributor to the HEUG

    · Provides a supporting statement from their institution as to how this will contribute to the member’s professional development, and their commitment to co-funding their participation

    · Provides a commitment in both statements to attending their next regional conference following the international conference to report back to a relevant audience on their experience

    · Contribute to social media posts throughout the conference they receive sponsorship for and write a blog for HEUG online about their experience to share with the HEUG community

    HEUG Emerging Leader Scholarship

This scholarship would be to support members that have the potential to be future leaders of the HEUG. It is hoped that recipients will take on more active roles such as conference organising, Advisory Group participation, regional group administration and Board roles. It is a professional development opportunity for future talent and to cultivate commitment to, and sustainability in, the HEUG.

    Eligibility:

    · Is an employee of a HEUG institutional member

    · Has not already received a HEUG Scholarship previously

    · Has not already received support from the HEUG through their role as a Board member, Advisory Group member, or similar

    · Attends their regional conference scheduled prior to the international conference for which they are applying

    · Provides a statement as to what contributions they have made to the HEUG already and how the scholarship will support them in continuing to be a contributor to, and be a future leader of, the HEUG

    · Provides a supporting statement from their institution as to how this will contribute to the member’s professional development, and their commitment to co-funding their participation

    · Provides a commitment (supported by their institution) to attending their next regional conference following the international conference to report back to a relevant audience on their experience

    · Contribute to social media posts throughout the conference they receive sponsorship for and write a blog for HEUG online about their experience to share with the HEUG community

Scholarship funding will be as follows:

    Scholarship

    Funding

    HEUG Presenter Scholarship

    $1,500

    HEUG Emerging Leader Scholarship

    $1,500

Funding will be distributed on completion of attendance at the international conference and other conditions of the scholarship and will take the form of a reimbursement to the member’s institution based on presentation of expenses incurred.

I believe that this is a fantastic opportunity for ANZ members to contribute even more to the HEUG community and also a significant professional development opportunity.

To apply please forward your statement of application indicating which scholarship you wish to be considered, your supporting institution statement, and responses to the conditions outlined above, to academic.registrar@uq.edu.au by COB Friday 3 November 2017. Applications will be assessed by the ANZ HEUG Executive Committee and recipients will be announced at the Closing Session of ADU 2017.
