Over the last few months, culminating at the Alliance conference this year, the HEUG has been trying to gauge interest from our communities regarding the use and implementation of competency based education (CBE) and other alternative academic models at our institutions. What we have found in our investigation is that, while CBE was our initial focus, CBE is only one small piece of the equation and that it would be better to look more holistically at this initiative. Thus, we have decided to shift our focus away from CBE specifically and broaden it to alternative academic models.
As a first step in this process, we have decided to publish a new HEUG public forum for “Alternative Academic Models.” This will allow users - across modules, institutions, and regions - to collaborate about the different models they currently use or want to use and how they have been historically handling these models in PeopleSoft. In addition to users on this forum helping each other, we plan to monitor it and see where people are expressing gaps in PeopleSoft that could be addressed to help with implementing non-traditional academic models in a broad sense, instead of narrowly focusing on one type of alternative academic model.
We encourage you to use and subscribe to this new “Alternative Academic Models” forum to share with the HEUG community your use cases and questions regarding how your respective institutions use alternative, non-traditional, academic models. The email address for this forum is aam.ps@list.heug.org and it can be found by logging into the HEUG site and navigating to Forums –> Campus Solutions -> Alternative Academic Models or using the following direct link: https://www.heug.org/p/fo/si/topic=2686.
