Campus Community NEWSLETTER - September 2016

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS

As we come to the close of summer, there’s quite a bit to reflect on how much has happened in the months since Alliance 2016. Quite amazingly, it is already time to also start thinking about Alliance 2017.   Remember, the HEUG is a place where many, if not all, of us turn to get help when we are looking to see how others are dealing with new things, when something doesn’t work quite as expected and also to share successes and challenges; “There's no such thing as failure - just waiting for success. John Osborne”    Also Alliance is the place where we all get a chance to meet face-to-face. With that said:

The Call for Alliance 2017 Proposals is Open! To submit your session proposal, all you need is the topic and summary information. You can continue refining your presentation after it is selected and post it one month before the conference. Alliance 17 is the 20th anniversary and as such will be an important event. The conference will be held Monday, February 27, 2017 to Thursday, March 2nd in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand. It is the largest meeting of Higher Education & Public Sector users of Oracle Applications in the world. Time flies! Only one month before the deadline, on October 7!

Submit your proposal now about your campus’s implementation or user experience of one of the functionalities covered by Campus Community: Personal Information Management and Integration, Self-Service, Delegated Access, Search/Match and Duplicate ID detection/resolution, 3Cs, Affiliations, Constituent Transaction Management, Evaluation Management, SEVIS, Activity Guide, etc.

Session submissions can be for a regular session - 50 minutes, mini session - 30 minutes, or a deep dive - 110 minutes.   The primary presenter will receive a complimentary conference registration for selected regular or deep-dive sessions. Mini-session selections will receive a 50% discount on an Early Bird registration.

Details for submitting a proposal can be found under the “Call for Proposals” tab on the Alliance 2017 website.   Guidelines, submission tips, PowerPoint tips, and a PowerPoint template can all be found on this tab as well. Click here<http://www.alliance-conference.com/page/2017-proposal-information> to navigate directly to that site and submit your proposal.

The Campus Community Advisory Group looks forward to your submissions and encourage you to contact either Annik Gelineau, Track Chair or Michelle Zasada, Assistant Track Chair, with any questions.

Besides attendance at a regional or national conference, you can also think about participating on one of the Advisory Groups. Nominations for the Advisory Groups is now open! Don’t miss out on this opportunity.

The HEUG has 17 Advisory Groups and they currently include members from over 100 HEUG institutions from all over the world. The most important functions of the Campus Community advisory group are bulleted below:

  • We represent our community by communicating to Oracle requests for enhancements, fixes, and modifications to improve the functionality and usability of the Campus Community module.
  • Annual meeting and monthly conference calls with Oracle strategists to discuss these current issues and future direction.
  • We collaborate and provide strategic recommendations to Oracle for subsequent product releases.
  • We liaise with other advisory groups on matters of mutual interest.
  • We communicate with our user community and provide various avenues for the community to engage with us to provide advice and feedback
  • Participate in the publication of forums, such as the new forum regarding Alternative Academic Models/Competency Based Education (CBE), and on workings groups that promote focused efforts in critical areas such as SEVIS and Data Privacy.

You have until September 26, 2016 to nominate yourself or someone else. To submit a nomination, please click here. Please be sure and fill out the form completely.

Please note that in order for you to be selected on an advisory group, your institution needs to be a HEUG Institutional or System member. Not sure of your institutions membership status? You can find your membership status on your group profile page; select "My Group" from the "My Options" dropdown menu on the upper right side of any page on HEUG.Online.  Any questions please contact  support@heug.org.

As a member of the registrar’s office team in my institution, I’m a privileged witness of the use of many of the Campus Community functionalities and can voice the concerns and needs of the product end users, students as well as staff working with the different tools.

Part of the second largest university in Canada, using a French translated version of the software, I bring up questions and make suggestions with a different social, cultural and legislative perspective.

Being part of the Campus Community Advisory Group is a great way to share knowledge and experience about Campus Solution. It also is a great way to contribute to the enhancement of the software we share!
