Presenter:                          Robb Penoyer

Session Link:                      https://www.alliance-conference.com/p/cm/ld/fid=4658&eaid=21008

Session Description:

What does the Earth look like to a fish? A fish would understand where all the deep areas of the oceans are, what the mountains look like, and where the water is warmer. A fish would not understand where the desolate deserts are, or how to target the arid areas for strong growth. Were your integrations built by fish? Is your shiny new Oracle Cloud Fusion implementation suffering from ill conceived, poorly built, or non-existent integrations? Many customers labor intensively to implement their Cloud strategy and end up with messy and incomprehensible integrations with no idea what is happening underneath the water line. Even worse, they may not know when and where the failures are. Turn around 180 degrees, look at your integrations from the land.  With a smart, comprehensive system, you know when integrations are running, when they are completing, and when they are in an error state. For example, accurate data captured for time entry is crucial. A tool able accomplish that task automatically would be a key addition to your project. There are conversion tools that ensure these tasks are completed and workers are paid accurately. Need additional project and grant information loaded? This integration tool can help with that as well. The Conversion process can be long and painful. Who hasn’t been intimidated by the 700-field default conversion spreadsheet? Yet with the right tools, the painful default spreadsheet can disappear forever. Years of experience and technology adoption has allowed us to accomplish conversions up to five times faster than average. Not only are our conversions better, but they have better accuracy and strong repeatability. The correct conversion tool allows projects to prepare, execute, and collect results from conversion in a fraction of the typical time. They can be used to run repeatable conversion processes at your institution, thus eliminating dirty and orphan data. Instead, it is transformed into a clear format for Cloud. Your team no longer needs to waste time and energy on conversion activities. Now, they will have time to spend on learning the essentials and mastering the new Cloud technology.  You do not have to accept conversions and integration designed from the perspective of a fish. In this presentation we will show you how your vision and need is the only driver for success. Your support teams can be enabled to see the world from the same point of view as your business owners. We love fish, but mostly on a plate.

Session Description:

Before Fluid components were introduced, application developers were spoiled by how little the development efforts were needed in terms of building the classic component search page, where the system uses built-in logic to create it on the fly based on the search keys defined on the search record for the component. However, in the fluid user interface, the real-time component search page is not populated automatically by the system. Instead, the application developer must create a pivot grid and design additional query-level security. This presentation aims to provide as many details as possible to encourage users to develop and use such a modern-look feature of the Fluid Component Real-Time search. The first part of the presentation is to walk through the development cycle of setting up a Real-Time Search for Fluid Components. We will overview the component properties, and then we will create a Pivot Grid model associated with the component through Pivot Grid Wizard, and finally we will review the query automatically created by the Pivot Grid behind the scenes as the actual search data source, before checking the result of component real-time search. The second part of the presentation is to fine-tune the search and enhance with different approaches. We will discuss the following:Adding prompts to search fields Expand/Hide search fields on the initial state Search operations Filter/Facets Columns only in result displaying not in used by the search Customized the default search page This is Part 1 of a two-part series. Row-level is such an integral part of an individual's security access, so why is granting row-level security so tedious?  And once removed from a user profile, there is no record of what was removed.  At UNLV, we found a solution to these issues by creating our custom Row-Level Security Management module.  We created a mod that lists all of an individual's row-level security on one page and allows you to update or remove that row-level on that same page while tracking the history of every change.  This presentation will show you how a custom mod has significantly saved valuable time and created an audit trail when administering row-level security.

9633 - The Real Cost of Technical Debt

Presenter:                          Brad Carlson, University of Minnesota

Session Link:                      https://www.alliance-conference.com/p/cm/ld/fid=4658&eaid=21062

Session Description:

In the world of IT, it is not uncommon for systems to run well beyond their expected lifetime.  But how long is too long?  Who is responsible for making sure antiquated systems are patched, secured and supported?  When does maintaining an old system outweigh replacing it with a modern solution? And most importantly, what is the cost of carrying old systems along for the ride to our institutions? The cost of technical debt isn't simply financial. Sure, there is a cost associated with any hardware and/or software licensing, support staff, and data center resources, but technical debt can cost an institution more than just dollars.  Technical debt leaves doors open for bad actors to exploit; when this happens. it can erode trust and ruin reputations as well.
